Fish : BROTHER 52 : Fish
HELLO,
amicalement

Brother 52
This, and the song that follows it, represent the peak of the album. Odd that this one's such a nutter. Brother 52 (he of the title) was a Fish fan whose member number in Fish's fan club was #52. This song is his story, told by his friend "Doc" on the phone with Fish. It makes for an unusual format, blending scorching guitars with Fish's vocals with a guy on the phone talking with an intense fiddle playing behind him. 52, it seems, got himself into trouble with some level of law enforcement and was shot to death in his home when they came to arrest him. Fish takes the opportunity to question a country that would allow its citizens to arm themselves and then go after them when they've "crossed the line" in what they're hoarding. Shades of Waco or Ruby Ridge, one would hardly expect to see Fish examining the issue of militia groups in the US, but he does it succinctly. I absolutely love the interplay between Usher's guitar and Patterson's Hammond organ.
If you get the Viceroy release of this album, you can put the disc in your computer and watch a Quicktime video of this song (Fish in a tattoo parlor getting one on, and wandering around what looks like an oil refinery.)

Re: Fish : BROTHER 52 : Fish
